In Lumbini province, a total of 22,421 candidates have filed candidacy for the May 13 local elections.
According to the Election Commission Nepal (ECN), 404 candidates have filed nominations for mayor and 285 candidates have filed nominations for deputy mayor of the towns in the province.
In the rural municipalities, 546 candidates filed nominations for chairman and 420 for vice-chairperson, according to EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel.
As previously reported, 5,102 people applied for the position of wards chairperson in the province.
In Lumbini, 3,886 women candidates, 3,603 Dalit women candidates, and 8,175 men candidates declared their candidacies.
