Jit Murad, a well-known theatre actor, director, and playwright, died today.
His death was verified by fellow stage veteran Jo Kukathas, who said he died at his home in Kuala Lumpur, according to an article in The Star.
In the late 1980s, Jit Murad – whose true name is Aziz Mirzan Murad – began his career in the Malaysian performing arts scene.
“Spilt Gravy on Rice” (1995), “The Storyteller” (1996), and “Gold Rain and Hailstones” (1998) are among his best-known works (2002).
Jit was the older brother of film director Na’a Murad and the son of former education director-general Tan Sri Murad Mohamed Noor.
As soon as word of his death broke, tributes to the famed thespian came pouring in on social media, notably from Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil.

“His sharp wit, insightful social commentary, and friendly demeanor will be sorely missed.” In an emotional Twitter tweet, he wrote, “Al-Fatihah.”
