Mahashivratri story

According to Garuda Purana, on this day a Nishadraj went hunting with his dog but could not find any prey. Tired of hunger and thirst, he sat on the bank of a pond, where there was a Shivling under the Bilva tree. To give rest to his body, he broke some bilva leaves, which also fell on the Shivling. To clean his feet, he sprinkled pond water on them, some drops of which also fell on the Shivling. While doing so one of his arrows fell down; To lift it, he bowed down in front of the Shivling. In this way, he unknowingly completed the entire process of worshiping Shiva on the day of Shivratri. After his death, when the Yamdoots came to take him, Shiva’s ganas protected him and chased them away.
