Nagesh Koirala, a Nepali Congress candidate, has been elected mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City.
Koirala defeated CPN-Sagar UML‘s Thapa to become mayor. He received 30,170 votes, while Thapa received 21,455 votes.
Similarly, Shilpa Nirala Karki of the UML was elected deputy mayor after defeating Amarendra Yadav of the Janata Samajwadi Party.
Deputy Mayor Karki won 25,680 votes, while her nearest competitor Yadav garnered 14,219 votes. Upendra Yadav, the JSP’s chairman, is Yadav’s father.
