National Girl Child Day Significance: National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on 24 January in India. The purpose of celebrating National Girl Child Day is to run a campaign against discrimination against girls in the country. Also, the purpose of this day is to make people aware of the rights of daughters. National Girl Child Day was started in the year 2008.

In fact, even today, discrimination against women and girls is common in many parts of the country. Compared to earlier, there has definitely been a slight change in the thinking of the people about the girls, but if you see on a larger scale, even today you will find many girls who are discriminated against in their own homes. It was against this discrimination and thinking that National Girl Child Day was started. The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India started this day in the year 2008.

Various programs are organized across the country on the occasion of National Girl Child Day i.e. National Girl Child Day. In this, awareness campaign is conducted on issues like safety of girls, education, sex ratio, health. Women have been discriminated against since ancient times. Still, women face gender discrimination in many ways, not only in villages but also in cities.

Continuous work is being done by the government to improve the condition of girls. Under this, the government runs many schemes like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, Sukanya Samriddhi. At the same time, many types of scholarship programs are also run for girls so that girls can get better education. One of these programs is Pragati Scholarship.

Under Pragati Scholarship, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) offers 4000 scholarships every year. These scholarships are for the girls of those houses whose annual income is 6 lakh rupees. In this, full year tuition fees of girls or 30000 thousand rupees and during graduation studies, 2000 thousand rupees are given for 10 months.
