National Girl Child Day 2023: National Girl Child Day or National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on 24 January 2023. This day is celebrated to eradicate the problems of discrimination, inequality and exploitation of girls and women and to raise awareness about them. For the first time it was celebrated in the year 2008. It was a joint campaign of the Government of India and the Ministry of Women and Child Development. It was celebrated for the first time with the aim of raising awareness about the inequalities faced by girls and women at various levels in the society.

Pragati Scholarship is provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) to 4000 girls every year. For this, those girls are eligible whose annual income is up to Rs.6 lakh. Under this, girls are given full year’s tuition fee or Rs 30 thousand and Rs 2 thousand for 10 months during graduation.

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship
Swami Vivekananda Scholarship is given by UGC to single girl child for research in social science. This is for those girl students who are doing Phd in Social Science from any university. In this, a fellowship of Rs 25,000 per month is given for the initial 2 years of PHd. 28,000 per month is given for the rest of the tenure.

Only those girls can apply for this scholarship, who are either the only child of their parents, twins or transgender. Apart from this, the age of the student should not be more than 40 years (45 years for reserved category). Interested candidates can apply for the scholarship at ugc.ac.in/svsgc/.
