Diplomatic ties have been established between Nepal and the Republic of Palau. With this, Nepal now has bilateral diplomatic connections with 174 different nations.
In a brief ceremony held at the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York on Monday, Amrit Bahadur Rai, the Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, and Ilana Victorya Seid, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Palau to the United Nations, signed a joint communiqué to this effect.
The two ambassadors also signed a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres alerting him of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The two ambassadors discussed a variety of topics of mutual interest in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation at national and multilateral levels, particularly at UN forums, for the mutual benefit of the two nations.
The Republic of Palau is a republic in the Pacific Ocean, southeast of the Philippines, with a population of roughly 22,000 people and a land area of 459 square kilometers.
On October 1, 1994, it became an independent state. It was previously a part of the United Nations Trust Territory in the Pacific Islands, which had been governed by the US since 1947, following WWII.
On December 15, 1994, Palau became the 185th member of the United Nations.
