According to media reports, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been removed from power after losing a no-confidence vote in his leadership.
Khan is the first prime minister of Pakistan to be deposed by a no-confidence vote.
According to the BBC, the vote was held at midnight after opposition parties filed a motion against him, which was upheld by the Supreme Court.
According to the report, Khan had stated that he would not recognize an opposition government and claimed – without evidence – that there was a US-led plot to depose him.
A new prime minister will now be appointed by the assembly.
On Monday, Pakistan‘s parliament will meet to elect the country’s new leader.
That person will be able to stay in power until the next election, which is scheduled for October 2023.
