PSG vs Lens: The Ligue 1 match between PSG and Lens is taking place on April 24 at 12:45 AM Nepal time.
With only one point separating them from securing their place as Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain will play Lens on Saturday night at the Parc des Princes with the hopes of completing the job with four games to spare.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side cruised to a 3-0 win over Angers in midweek, while Franck Haise’s side defeated Montpellier HSC 2-0 at home.
PSG simply had to improve Marseille’s result against Nantes on Wednesday night to reclaim their deserved Ligue 1 title, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side achieved just that as Kylian Mbappe, Sergio Ramos, and Marquinhos put a lackluster Angers side to the sword.
For a brief moment, it appeared that PSG would enter game week 33 with the title already wrapped around their necks, but Marseille recovered from behind to defeat Nantes 3-2, ensuring that the title battle would remain mathematically alive for at least another week.
PSG leads their nearest opponents by 15 points at the top of the rankings with only five games remaining in the 2021-22 season, meaning that a draw at home against Lens would be enough for Les Parisiens to win the French title for the 10th time in their history.
Even if PSG fails to secure the title this weekend, matches against Strasbourg, Metz, Troyes, and Montpellier provide the champions-elect with fantastic chances to accomplish so, although Pochettino will not likely want to do it as soon as possible to avoid an uncertain summer.
PSG won their fourth Ligue 1 game in a row against Angers, and they have also won each of their past eight league games at the Parc des Princes, and Lens will want to spoil the title party in the capital in order to promote their own continental hopes.
Lens, like their title-chasing hosts, have strung together a run of consecutive victories in their drive to accomplish their end-of-season objectives, and a top-five finish is surely not out of the question for the 2019-20 Ligue 2 runners-up.
Les Sang et Or’s David Costa and Ignatius Ganago both scored either side of halftime in their midweek triumph over Montpellier, making Haise’s side three for three after previously defeating Lille and Nice in an eye-catching run of results.
Lens, who are still in contention for a place in the Europa Conference League, Europa League, or perhaps the Champions League, are currently seventh in the table, three points behind Monaco, Strasbourg, and Rennes, the latter of whom they will meet on the final day of the season.
A thrilling battle for third place has already begun and is expected to go down to the wire, but Lens have personified unreliability on the road this season, taking just 21 points out of 48 available on the road and winning just three Ligue 1 games on rival turf since October.
Haise’s side did manage to halt PSG’s momentum earlier this season when they held Pochettino’s side to a 1-1 draw at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, but Les Parisiens have not lost at home to Saturday’s visitors since 2006, and the home crowd will be hoping for a title celebration when the final whistle blows this weekend.
