Punam Rawal took bronze in the 60-kg women’s category of the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament 2022 after losing to a competitor from the Philippines by a score of 2-3.
Nepal took third place in an international boxing tournament held in Phuket, Thailand.
For the past eight years, Rawal has served in the Nepali Army.
In the final, the Philippine player defeated her Indian opponent to win the gold.
This is Nepal‘s first international boxing award since 2010.
Along with Rawal, Chandrakala Thapa, Minu Gurung, Sushma Thapa, and Bhupendra Thapa Magar represented the country at the tournament. According to Nepali team coach Prakash Thapa Magar, they competed for the title in different weight categories.
Dhan Kumar Mainali of Nepal was one of the tournament’s referees.
