Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya has heated up the political atmosphere of Uttar Pradesh by calling Ramcharitmanas nonsense and demanding removal of some cattle. SP President Akhilesh Yadav has kept silence on the statement of Swami Prasad Maurya. Big leaders of SP have also adopted silence, but a section of the party is vocal against the statement of Swami Prasad Maurya. SP’s Dalit-backward leaders are standing in support of Swami Prasad with a suppressed tongue, while the party’s upper caste leaders have come out in protest.

Manoj Pandey opened the front

Manoj Pandey, SP’s chief whip in the assembly, is most vocal about the statement of Swami Prasad Maurya. He said that Ramcharitmanas is such a ‘granth’, which is read and followed by people not only in India but also abroad. Ramcharitmanas teaches us moral values and the importance of relationships with brothers, parents, family and others. Be it the meeting of Nishadraj and Shri Ram or the incident of Sabri’s false plum. In this way, Ramcharitmanas teaches respect to Dalits, backward and tribals.

Rakesh Pratap raised questions

SP MLA from Gauriganj Rakesh Pratap Singh said that the one who is raising questions on Lord Ram or Ramayana can neither be a true Sanatani nor a true socialist. Our ideal is Ram, cannot tolerate his insult. What Swami Prasad Maurya said is not the language of SP, it is his personal language and statement. He said that Lord Ram ate Shabri’s false berries, made Nishadraj his friend. Who can be a bigger true socialist than Ram on this earth. No socialist was born bigger than Ram. If Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia believes Ram and Ramayana to be right, then today someone is making a statement on it, so it is not appropriate, I condemn it.

Mehrotra said – Apologize

Regarding the statement of Swami Prasad Maurya, SP MLA Ravidas Mehrotra said that this is his personal statement, the party has nothing to do with it. Leaders should speak on public problems etc. Refrain from speaking on any religious book. He said that Swami Prasad Maurya should apologize for his statement, because no one’s sentiments should be hurt.

Richa reminded of Lohia

Describing Swami Prasad Maurya as a pseudo-socialist, SP leader Dr. Richa Singh said that one should read the socialism of Dr. Lohia who sees harmony between socialism and Shri Ram. Along with this, an explanation should also be given as to why he has not shown the path of socialism to his daughter till now or that too when the opportunity comes. Not only this, he said that Swami Prasad Maurya, who eats the cream of power in the name of Dalits and the underprivileged, who does politics in the name of caste, should tell him if he has worked in the interest of any Dalit-deprived till date.

Upper caste leader vocal against Swami

The four SP leaders who raised questions on the statement of Swami Prasad Maurya, all of them come from upper castes. The fight for political supremacy between Manoj Pandey and Swami Prasad is well known. Manoj Pandey comes from Brahmin community. Rakesh Pratap Singh and Dr. Richa Singh both belong to the Rajput community while Ravidas Mehrotra is a Punjabi Khatri. The SP has not yet decided the party line on Swami Prasad Maurya. While Akhilesh Yadav is completely silent, Ram Gopal Yadav has also kept silence. Is this a strategy of SP or is it trying to fathom the fragility of time.

Why Akhilesh Yadav is silent

There are many hurdles in the way Akhilesh Yadav is taking Samajwadi and Ambekarists together in the politics of UP. It is believed that Akhilesh Yadav is taking political fathoms by keeping silence on the statements of Swami Prasad Maurya on Ramcharitmanas, but the upper caste leaders are being vocal and playing a double bet. SP’s OBC and Dalit leaders are also silent, but are also standing in support of Swami Prasad Maurya. In such a situation, questions are being raised whether this is a part of Akhilesh Yadav’s strategy or the politics of damage control of Swami Prasad’s statement?

Shivpal sidelined

Shivpal Singh Yadav, who recently merged his party with SP, termed Swami Prasad Maurya’s comment as his personal statement. He said that the Samajwadi Party does not agree with the statement of Swami Prasad Maurya. This is his personal statement, the party has nothing to do with it. We are the people who follow the ideals of Lord Ram and Krishna. Along with this, he raised the question whether BJP is a party following the path shown by Lord Ram.
