Minister has been in Yogi government for 5 years

Swami Prasad Maurya may have been a BJP minister for the entire five years, but before the 2022 assembly elections, as soon as he left the BJP, he had called the party ‘Ram’s merchant’. Swamy remained in BSP for 20 years

Swami Prasad Maurya was born on 2 January 1954 in Pratapgarh, but he made Rae Bareilly his political workplace. Swamy first joined the Janata Dal in 1991 and remained active at the local level. After that he joined Bahujan Samaj Party. In 1996, Swami Prasad contested assembly elections from Dalmau and became MLA of BSP. Swami Prasad Maurya, who became an MLA for the first time, was made a minister by Mayawati. After that Swami Prasad’s steps in electoral politics went on increasing. In 2002, Swami Prasad again became MLA from BSP. Swami Prasad Maurya got the advantage of being the only leader of his caste among the OBCs in the BSP, which formed the basis of Dalit votes. Along with this, due to his aggressive image and ability to speak in the House, he was also a prominent face for making statements in the matters of the Assembly and raising issues in the House.

Maurya became MLA from Padrauna in 2007

After the defeat in the 2007 assembly elections, the party changed the seat of Swami Prasad Maurya. After that in 2012, he contested from Padrauna seat of Kushinagar and won. Seeing his aggressive style and ability to take opponents under pressure, Mayawati made him the Leader of the Opposition in the assembly, but just 6 months before the assembly elections, he resigned and formed his new party.
