CPN-UML candidate Hemanta Rai and Binod Nemwang of Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal have been elected as the chairman and vice-chairman of Mangsebung village municipality of Ilam respectively.
Rai defeated Dikendra Idingo of the Nepali Congress by 323 votes and was elected as the Chairman of UML. UML’s Rai got 3,818 votes while his nearest rival Dikendra Idingo got 3,495 votes, said Election Officer Ghanendra Adhikari. Prem Kumar Kerung of the Mongol National Organization got only 14 votes.
Idingo is the outgoing village chairman. In the local level election of 2074 BS, Idingo defeated Rai and won the election. Rai was elected for the second time in five years.
Rai is the chairman of the UML’s Mangsebung village committee while Idingo is the regional chairman of Nepali Congress Constituency No. 2. Similarly, Binod Nemwang defeated UML candidate Sunita Subba by 683 votes. Nemwang got 3,729 votes while his nearest rival Subba of UML got 3,046 votes.
